The Scenario
In the past, if a surgeon wanted to reference something outside the sterile field, the surgeon would step away from the sterile field, pick up a sterile instrument, use the sterile instrument to point to the area on the X-ray or MRI that they are referencing, then, drop the sterile instrument, put on a new sterile glove, possibly put on a new sterile sleeve, return to the sterile field, and resume the operation. Operative time, anesthesia time, and chances of sterility breaks all are increased when this happens.
The Solution
The founders of PRZM spent many years in operating rooms as PAs, surgical assistants, sales reps, and circulating nurses. They saw the above scenario play out frequently, especially in teaching hospitals. They heard surgeons and sterile staff remark, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a sterile laser pointer?” Tired of hearing this refrain, the founders of PRZM found a way to make a double-pouched, single-use sterile laser pointer. Today the Steripointer is available for use in your operating room.
